Title: Conversations in the Shed
Pairing: Freddie/Effy
Rating: PG-13. Swearing, drug use.
Summary: Freddie and Effy conversations in between their scenes in 4.2. Some nice fluff after all the angst we've been going through.

Freddie sat in his shed with his spliff. He took a drag from it and laughed to himself. Nothing had changed for him at all. He had spent an entire summer hanging out with Cook and JJ and trying to screw anything that would stand still long enough in an attempt to forget about Effy but he couldn't. Now she was back and saying that she thought about him all summer long and he wasn't sure what to do. Well...he knew what he wanted to do. But what he wanted and what actually happened were always very different things. He hated that Emily had to come up and dump whatever trust issues she is having with Naomi on him. He didn't want to think about the times that he had to see Effy with Cook but now it was all he could think about. He couldn't go through all that again. Once was enough for this lifetime, that's for sure. But he loved Effy and he couldn't just forget her either. Suddenly there was a knock on the door. Freddie felt himself jump a little in surprise. He really needed to stop thinking about this for awhile. He got up to answer it and, of course, Effy Stonem was standing on the other side of the door.

She looked perfect. She had on the same clothes from school and was just sitting there smiling at him. " Can I ask you something?" she asked.
"Oh! Of course. Sorry." Freddie said, realizing how it must have looked rather rude to be standing there in the doorway just gaping at Effy and not actually saying anything. He moved aside so she could walk past. She then sat down on his futon. She looked completely comfortable half lying there in his shed. He really liked seeing her in here with him.  He sat down next to her.
"There's a party tonight. Are you planning on going?" she asked. Freddie knew what he wanted to say. He wanted to say 'I will if you are.' but now Emily had mindfucked him and he was worried again. Freddie was pretty sure he thinks too fucking much.
"Sure, yeah. Why not? Is anyone else coming?" Freddie also thinks he talks too fucking much sometimes. Maybe just too much around Effy because she could always somehow see what he was trying to say. Effy looked at him and seemed to almost be studying his face. Freddie just knew that she could tell he was asking about Cook. Effy knew things like that about him.
"I don't know. I wanted to ask you first to see if I should even bother showing up." she replied. Freddie couldn't help but beam back at her. Effy then leaned in and gave him a kiss on the cheek.
"See you in a couple hours then." She got up, took one last look at him still sitting on his futon, his spliff still smoking in the ashtray on the table in front of him and left the shed. Freddie just knew it. He knew right then and there that even if everything happened again with Cook and the hurt and pain and everything he'd do it all again for her. One conversation and Freddie physically could not stay away from her anymore. Why bother trying?

"Effy I have to call someone."
"No you don't, Freddie."
"I can't just sit here and do nothing! Cook just..."
"I saw what Cook did." Effy finished. They were back in the shed after the party. Effy had stopped Freddie from getting involved in Cooks fight. They had left the party and come straight here. Freddie wasn't even sure why they were here. He was just following Effys lead here but now he felt...wrong. He felt like his skin was crawling. One of his best mates had just pulverized someone and attacked another one of his best mates in the process. He couldn't just sit here in his shed and do nothing.
"I have to call JJ and make sure he's alright." Freddie took out his phone and dialed JJ's number. Nobody picked up. It made him even more agitated and worried and just....
Then Effy was kissing him. Passionately. He couldn't help but respond to that. He wrapped his arms around her back as they kissed. After a bit she pulled back.
"I don't want you sacrificing yourself for him." She put one hand up on his cheek and almost caressed his face. Freddie just looked at her for a second.
"I'm not gonna be sacrificing myself Effy. But he's my best mate. He just attacked JJ. I have to know they're alright." Freddie said. He could feel himself getting upset at this whole situation. Things were so odd with Cook now and he couldn't help but somehow feel responsible for whatever had happened tonight. He looked away from Effy for a second, not being able to handle the weight of her stare.
"I know. I just wanted you to know something before we head out there and deal with all this." Freddie then looked back up at her. She sat down on the futon again and patted the cushion, telling him to sit. He sat down next to her again. She took a deep breath and looked up at him. Both of her hands were cupping his face now. She just stared into his eyes like that for a few seconds before she said,
" I love you Freddie. I need for you to know that. I know things got complicated last year but..." Effy started. Freddie closed his eyes for a second, smiled and kissed her.
"I really fucking love you too, Effy." That made her smile in return, her hands still holding his face.
"I know you'd do anything for Cook, Freddie. But he's gotta face his own battles soon or he'll never win any of them." Freddie gave her a slight nod, letting her know that he heard what she was trying to say. Then she kissed him again. She dropped her hands from his face and grabbed one of his. They looked at each other and then got up and left the shed and went out to face the world together. They wouldn't have to be alone anymore.
