Baby Bot & my (too) Crafty Christmas

Jan 13, 2011 10:27

Wow!  I'm actually posting something appropriate for our ami-along theme this month!  :o). Hurray!

Betty Baby Bot - part of my (too) Crafty Christmas

It seems that great minds think alike and we've had a surge in wee Robot population in the last two days.  :oD  I adore robots!  Finally I had a chance to make one!  (I'm not counting the two, more robot-y looking, unfinished ones, waiting for many months for faces, and prospective giftees.)

On discovering, at a very late date, that the doll that I'd been knitting (for weeks) for our wee niece for Christmas was turning out too delicate for her I had to make something else!  (arrrgh!) And quick!

Maria Teresa unfinished

I needed something with simple shapes which I could use thicker yarn to make, rather than the fine stuff that I usually use.  Because most of my stash is lightweight yarn, and I needed to work with my stash, I wound up using two baby yarns held together for most of Baby Bot, which worked out surprisingly well.

Looking through my collection of inspiration pics, and trolling the net for ideas, I chose to make a knitted version of a super adorable, cutie crocheted robot! (apparently from a Japanese crochet amigurumi book Amigurumi Collection Vol. 6 by Uzunotsuke - here)

This photo of the beautiful one crocheted by masakiti (lj post here)

masakiti's inspirational robot

was the one that had inspired me, and there are a number of terrific versions of him out there.  Here's a link to a bunch of them on ravelry.com (if you're a member you can see them - and if you're not ... sign up quick!  It's a wonderful site!  You'll love it!)

Baby Bot is blogged here with more details :

Baby Bot, and Hello Kitty in Kimono were part of my very poorly planned Christmas crafting. (you got a peek at HK in my New Year's post and she's blogged here http://theknittycat.blogspot.com/2011/01/hello-kitty-in-kimono-crafty-christmas.html)

These were the HK's that inspired me to make mine:

Aren't they beautiful?!  And mine inspired chiwaluv to make hers!  Isn't that cool?!  I love that!  :o)

Here's a peek at most of the ami's I made in the 2 months before Christmas! (there are also the 5 ami's sent to Scotland before this pic was taken, and the 4 ornaments I made after it was taken.)  And I'm not a speedy ami-maker!  I'll post more details later.  if you look closely, you can see my favorite in the second row from the top, on the left - the wee turtle. I really loved that wee fellow!

(yes, I did a beautiful job of composing.  ugh.   I especially love the disordered mass of ornaments.)

I worked night and day, including several all-nighters, in my attempt to finish.  Which I didn't - i still have belated ones to finish. I sooo don't recommend crafting this way!  I made myself very sick and injured my already messed up hands to the extent that I can't work on the ami's at ALL right now!  I'm going bonkers!  Plus it takes the fun out of it. :o/

Sooo....  Usually I'm too swamped with my knitting to squeeze out time to post, but since I'm unable to knit at the moment (waaahhh *sniff*), I'm writing this stuff up as fast as I can. Heh heh. Once I can knit again, my hands will be too busy!  Oh, I can't wait!!!

Anybody else have a cutie robot to share??  I do love those robots!!  ;o)
