A question for those of you who write your own patterns: how do you decide whether to sell them or post them for free? If you're intending it to be a free pattern, do you request people to test the pattern and report back to you if there were errors? Or would you only do testing on paid-for patterns?
The person I made
the shih tzus for asked for another pair (at 3 times the price, hooray!), so while I was working at duplicating them, I decided to write the pattern down. I haven't finished working on it, but so far I have the pattern for the head down, which is the least-straight-forward part of it. I do intend to finish the pattern.
I also have a pattern for
the turtles I made, but I've never published it anywhere. So, obviously people like having free patterns and in that way, I want to post it for free. But then again, it would be nice to make a few bucks by selling a pattern, right?
So how do you decide? If you decide to charge, how much to you charge? What else goes into pattern-writing?
