help? turning problems again...

I'm trying to make Tamie Snow's Big Blue pattern, and I'm almost finished. I just have to make the arms and the teeth. I'm really confused about the teeth. I know I've posted a question about "turning" before, and I figured it out that time, but in this case I just can't grasp it. I don't understand what the pattern is telling me.

Here's what it ( Read more... )

I hate "turning" patterns. They make it sound so complicated when I'm sure it's really not.

Don't you just turn it around like you would turn your work if you were knitting something? I'm sure that's it. Like the teeth aren't done the round. I'm sure it's like that.

I've never really followed a turning pattern since the only things I've ever done are in the round, but i think breaktown_bali is right and you just turn the work around and work back the other way like you would in knitting.

I am being totally lame and redundant for no reason, sorry XP

You weren't being lame and redundant, middayanonym0us! Thanks for helping out! :o) You're absolutely right! You turn your work and work back the other way, exactly! :o)

I'm pretty sure turn means going back and forth in rows. I never found that too difficult, because my first project ever was a full-size blanket for my bed, which was nothing more than row after row with a turn in between. So, just do the first thing, make that chain, and turn the work around to work left to right again the other way. Back and forth.

Have you tried to actually just do it? Sometimes patterns don't make sense to me when I read them, but then when I just do exactly what they say it's like, "oh, ok, I get it now!"

If it still isn't making sense, PM me and I'll do a little drawing for you of what you are supposed to do.

Very good advice, crafty_shanna! That's so true! Sometimes, just reading the instructions, they might seem more complicated than they really are, but when you actually start doing each step, it begins to make sense. :o)

ETA: I wuv your icon! Cutest kitty! :o) Is that Hello Kitty?

Actually, the icon is Charmmy Kitty. She is Hello Kitty's pet cat. I came across a pic of her somewhere online (I don't remember where) and fell in love with her. ^_^
