Stripes question and my projects

Jan 26, 2009 16:10

Hello! I just learned how to crochet over the holidays, and had a question about switching colours.

I want to make this adorable little turtle http://www.crochetville.org/forum/showthread.php?t=40998

but I was wondering if there was a better way to switch colours between stripes. What I have been doing so far is the stitch before the colour change, I use the new colour in the last loop (does that make sense?) so the entire new colour stitch is one colour.

However, I find once I spiral around once and switch colours again that the stripe doesn't match up very well at all. I wanted to know if there's a neater way to do stripes, or if I should just hide that part on the bottom of my amis :S

Thanks! And behind the cut are all my ami projects since Christmas!~

I made a mouse/rat and a pig for my parents (their Chinese zodiac animals)

Pig: http://www.crochetville.org/forum/showthread.php?t=27147 (I modified as I went along, since my gauge was all wonky)

Octopus: http://www.flickr.com/photos/lauradiez/2434083387/sizes/l/ (it was posted a while ago on this community)

Some more of these guys for my boyfriend's project at school (to do with multi core processors, code named "Kraken" - they were a big hit at the presentation!)

Using leftover scraps

I wasn't too happy with this Koala and ended up buying some smaller hooks since the yarn is quite thin. He found a happy home though, as one of my friends fell in love with him.. and he now dangles from her oversized bag!

This kitty is so darling, but always falls over because I didn't have anything heavy to stuff his body with... so he succumbs to his huge head.

I had to play around with the bumps because my white yarn was really thin, but he turned out cute enough :) I'm going to give it to my old friend back home...

Moogle: http://amysbabies.blogspot.com/2007/04/moogle-pattern.html (saw the pattern from a post here, thanks!)

I made this beaver for one of my roommates for being really awesome. This guy is hanging from his car's rearview mirror! I couldn't find a beaver pattern I really liked, so I modified a bear pattern. It took me a while to be satisfied with the face though!

Made this for my boyfriend and had an incredibly hard time with the feet XD

Also for my bf, a slime from the Dragon Quest series. I didn't have the right vivid blue, but it'll do! I actually winged it a bit because I didn't want to make a huge slime :)

A cuuuute bumble bee! I wanted to make something quick, so I made this guy. He's hanging from my lamp now :) This is where I started to notice the stripes not working so well...

I made this penguin for an old friend who I haven't seen in a few years. She seemed to really like him!

That's everything! I'm currently working on a cactuar without a pattern and a dog for my old roommate. I'll post them when I finish :)
