Could someone please lead me to an easy first-knitted-amigurumi pattern?  I can crochet and I can (sort of) knit.  I don't know how to increase/decrease when knitting, but I won't learn how to do it until I have to (when crocheting, I learned how to do anything more than sc by following an amigurumi pattern).  I know knitting is different and it'll ( Read more... )

I knit and can only sort-of crochet (and really only lurk in this community... this might be my first comment), but my first knitted ami was from one of Crafty Alien's patterns. One of the great things that makes her patterns easy is that they're knit on straight needles, so you won't have to tangle with DPNs or circulars just yet. However, she does this because they are meant to be felted (and since the first knitted ami was also my first felting project, it turned out kind of silly looking, but I love it anyways), so if you don't want to felt, they may not be as useful to you.

But you are going to have to learn to decrease and increase, as I don't think she explains it in her patterns.

Or you could make this bunny, which is crafted from a knitted square.

omfg. That bunny is amazing. I'm always shocked at people's creativeness.

Maybe I'll try one of the Crafty Alien patterns. I can knit a square, so I would like to learn to do some of the other stitches and learning to felt wouldn't be a bad idea either.

For general conversions from crochet or designing, you might also find this knitting amigurumi tutorial useful, too. I imagine it's been posted here before, but I just thought I'd bring it up anyhow. She appears to have a series of them that may be helpful... I'm still trying to sort out knitting amis myself :)

This cupcake is a good first pattern, especially as there is an accompanying tutorial. It was the first amigurumi I ever made :)

Is it that easy to transfer the crochet pattern to a knitting pattern?

Oops, I'm sorry, I misread what you were asking for! I got it the wrong way around -- I thought you could knit but were learning to crochet and were looking for beginner projects. Sorry about that!
