HUGE SUCCESS

It's hard to overstate my satisfaction.

Pattern
Note, my pattern uses British terms. Leave long tails on all pieces to help with sewing them together.

1. Using thick wool, make 6 squares of grey yarn, as if you were testing gauge.
I used foundation chain of 10, and 6 rows of trebles, but as long as your squares are all the same size, it doesn't matter whether you use trebles or double crochets.

2. Make 4 heart motifs using thinner yarn.
I used this pattern. I also slip stitched around each heart to give them smooth edges.

3. Make 8 corner pieces.
a. Chain 2.
b. Make 4 st into the second stitch from hook (kind of like making a magic ring)
c. Sl st into first st, ch 3*
d. Ch 3 more (counts as first treble), treble back along the row (3 trebles total).
e. Sl st into the same st again
f. Repeat steps c-e twice to end up with three "arms".

* note: this chain length will depend on how long the sides of your base cube are. Make them less than half the cube side.

4. Sew cube pieces together, leaving one side open.
5. Sew heart motifs to 4 sides.
6. Sew corner pieces to all corners except the side you left open.
7. Stuff cube firmly.
8. Close final side up, and attach corner pieces.

For accuracy's sake, you could add extra embellishment with felt pieces, but I didn't have any XD My finished cube size is roughly 3 inches big, which makes it one of my largest pieces.
