Garion had only been passing by when he'd seen it. It wasn't anything horrific or upsetting, just a bit confusing.

His daughter, standing in front of a mirror, practicing what looked for all the world like a speech. Except it was obviously to only one person, as he caught a few absolutely adorable facial expressions that had, on previous use, toppled the greatest of kings and more than a few queens and any of the servants you'd care to name.

Hmm.

He stepped in, slipping the door closed as quietly as he can before scooping up Beldaran with a laugh. When he turned her towards him, he noticed she looked thoughtful.

"What is it, my dear?"

The little dryad peered at him curiously.

"Do I hafta be inna other place to see Belar?"

What a curious question. Garion shook his head.

"I expect if you called on him here, even, he'd hear you."

And with that, her little face lit up.

"Kay!" She squirmed to get out of his arms and he let her go with a laugh. He ended up with his daughter on his shoulders.

"Take me to the stables?"

And Garion smiled.

"Going to see your new pony?"

She nodded.

"Wanna lookit the teef."

Now that had his head turning just a little towards his daughter, but then he shrugged. She was a Tolnedran, and one of her mother's favorite hobbies was counting the money in their drawer. If the little girl wanted to appraise her horseflesh again, he wasn't about to stop her.

"All right."

And he was glad he said it because it won him a brilliant smile.
