So you know those horror stories about people finding tarantulas or rats or weird creepy-crawlies in the produce they buy from grocery stores? They totally do happen.

Today at work, a customer came in with a plastic container which held a Black Widow spider. I don't remember what particular vegetables/fruit it was found on (grapes, I think?), but it was pretty crazy. I'm not sure what they ended up doing with it, though a call to the warehouse was made.

That spider was really weird to look at. I had never seen one in real life before, and the venom of most species is pretty brutal. It didn't look particularly threatening, save for that tell-tale red mark on its back. I can't imagine how hair-raising it would have been to have scooped it up and trapped it in that container!

I was a little annoyed because I kept maintaining that we do have those spiders in Canada (probably the only truly venomous insect here), but no one believed me. Stupidheads.
