I love quoting lyrics in conversation. Especially to people who are none the wiser about it, who you are sure have never heard the song, leaving you to your own amusement. I was sitting in the Art Block at school during a ten-minute break from art class. I was sitting on one of those wooden picnic tables, basking in the absence of the sun that was hidden behind clouds, listening to the muffled sounds of someone playing Bach on the piano nearby. My friend Beau came out and sat opposite me, and proceeded talking of someone or something that I cannot remember at all. But she was trying to remember someone’s name.
Beau: B something… B-Burke…? No…
Jen: Bukowski? *Giggle* Charles Bukowski?
Beau: *Strange look* No…Whose that?
Jen: Oh, a writer.
Beau: Any good?
Jen: Yeah, he’s a pretty good read.
Beau: Cool.
I think I must be the only person in the world who would be very momentarily amused after that short conversation.
Ah well.
