A: action around town/with CR

[Canada has been up a good portion of the morning, in the kitchen. Which... in and of itself, isn't unusual at all. Except, while her excessive cooking is usually restricted to making sure the household gets fed and is at least close to happy with her being there, today she's prepared large batches of cookies to share ( Read more... )

[Said nothusband is napping on the sofa. One of his favorite Sunday activities.]

[After he's had time to rest (from... whatever hard work he did, she doesn't know but that's okay!) and everything's ready and she really can't put it off any longer, she goes to crouch beside the sofa, their faces at about an even level, and tentatively rest a hand on his arm.]

... Nederland?

[Yes, she's trying to wake him up, but it'll be worth it, she swears.]

[A sigh, and he's just barely opening his eyes.]

Hmm. . .

[Once he realizes it's Canada though, and how close she is, he opens them all the way and lifts his head.]

. . . Hei.

Hi. Sorry to wake you... [She's still close. But now she's smiling sweetly at him, too.]

But I wanted to know what flavour of cake icing you prefer.

. . . cake icing. . .

[Still waking up. . . oh. That smile too . . . there's just the smallest amount of color in his face when she does that.]

You're making a cake?

[The 'why' is implied.]

[And now she's blushing, just a little, but not moving out of his space. He'll have to point out she's too close if he wants it to stop.]

Yes. Well, since it's Father's Day here and you're technically the father of the household and it's not as if anyone else is going to celebrate it for you, I figured it would be good to make sure you enjoyed it and I'm not really sure what to do, but cakes are a good guess in any event and I've already got dinner ready.

[Why would he ever. He will roll onto his side though, still looking at her closely; even though she often made food for he and Hilda, there was something a little off.]

Thanks. . .

[Something gives him a little warning though, and Holland wasn't ever very good at ignoring those red flags that sometimes went off in his mind.

Father's Day?

Father's Day. He remembered Mother's Day, and of course Canada wouldn't have any idea what had happened then. But Holland keeps his expression impassive.]

So what's for dinner?

It's a surprise. Well, until you walk into the kitchen. [Smiling.] But if you want to rest a bit longer, I can finish with the cake first.

[It would be wrong to simply let her do this, no matter how great the temptation is to take advantage of what the town is doing.

Yet, the fact that it is the town leaves a bad taste in his mouth; Holland gets to his feet, offering Canada a hand.]

I'll help.

[He won't be grumpy from being woken up, this time.]

[Canada continues to smile as she stands with him, but her eyes crinkle with worry. The worst of it is she would behave like this anyway, just maybe not so openly until she thought he wouldn't just find it creepy.]

Is something wrong? That's not necessary, you know, dear.

Nothing's wrong; let me help.

Nnh--

[He was going to have to try hard to not tell her what to do today.]

Please.

[And it's a little odd, but Canada finds herself nodding before leaning forward to kiss Netherlands' cheek.]

If you insist.

[. . . that was wonderful. After a quick moment he sets his hand lightly on the crown of her head and gives her a kiss to the forehead.

. . . she might dislike him for that later. He tugs her hand a bit as they go to the kitchen.]

[No. She's pretty sure she'll treasure and adore that memory. For right now, she's just blushing prettily as they go into the kitchen, which appears to be filled with far more delicious food than they actually need.

Reluctantly letting go of his hand, she goes over to the mixing bowl beside the introduce cake.]

You haven't said what sort of icing you'd like.

Let's just put fruit on it; strawberries.

[And he's getting some out of the fridge now.]

Oh, that's a lovely idea!

[That's a horrible idea. She wants to put icing on it. :c]
