Car for... um... sale. For free.

So...

due to a strange sequence of events, I am in possession of a car that has (by now) a thoroughly-repaired and well-running engine, but needs about $600 in repairs to the steering assembly before it'll be really drivable. (It could also use new shocks.) However, I've fixed (or had fixed) just about darn near everything else that's wrong with the thing, and I'd hate to throw away all the money and effort that's been put into fixing it at this point by donating it.

Soooo... anybody want a car?

It's an '88 Escort "Pony" submodel, manual transmission, something like 200k miles (odometer only has 5 digits, so... who knows). Clean title.

Work that's been done to fix it so far:

- Replaced brake pads and shoes
- Fixed broken parking brake
- Complete engine tune-up (incl. replacing rotor blades, engine wires, all kindsa crap)
- Oil change
- Removed tinting on driver's & passenger's windows
- Brand-new battery and connections
- new Manifold Air Pressure Sensor (MAPS)
- New wiper blades

Annoyances:

- Needs essential steering repairs. I received an estimate at $600 from a source that had no reason to lie (he's held to not exceed the estimate by more than 10%, but knew that I'd walk if he quoted a price that was too high).
- Needs new shocks, for preventive maintenance and comfort.
- A/C is crap.
- Windshield cleaner spray doesn't work.

Things to know:

- Manual transmission (4 gears, overdrive, and reverse makes 6)
- Hatchback. TONS of trunk space.

Other than that, it's in really good shape, especially considering the poor baby is 19 years old. And since I've fixed so much, I'm highly reluctant to chuck it.

So why don't I fix it myself, you ask? Well, Mom recently got a new car, and agreed (through some act of overabundant maternal grace) to let me have the old one.

Interested? Speak quick -- I need to get rid of the thing by the end of the month, or it'll fail inspection automatically (due to the steering problems).
