Came home from French Class tonight to find...
A Jury Summons for Federal Court. I'm supposed to appear November 21, which happens to be only 9 days before my scheduled departure for France. The letters that came with the summons state that the average trial doesn't last longer than a week, so I'm really hoping that I'll get something with a shorter time frame. That also happens to be the same day that a coworker leaves for a month-plus long vacation, and she's one of the largest producers of work to be done, so that is convenient.
The second thing is that A has been summoned as a witness to testify against the guy who falsely got the signatures for the campaign that he worked on. Apparently the guy is being prosecuted for identity theft in addition to the improper other things he did on the campaign. So I might be excluded for the jury pool if it ends up being that particular case, in which case I might be deferred or rescheduled.
At any rate, my boss won't be too happy to hear this news tomorrow.
