Weekend before this last, while my folks were in town, we made a run to Costco, and I had stocked up on $40 of super lean ground beef, and gorgeous pork chops. That sunday, there was a problem with the circuit in the garage that runs the freezer. I reset it a couple of times after the freezer alarm went off, and thought I had gotten it back on track.
Jump to a week later after not having been in the garage at all. A decided on burgers for dinner Sunday because it would be quick on the Foreman grill. He discovered that my cleverness at resetting the freezer circuit was far from clever and that we had lost everything in it.
So we got the freezer turned back on and ran it for several hours, in order to reduce some of the horrendous odor for the trash collectors by refreezing the stuff. Since my stomach is extremely weak when it comes to icky odors, A cleaned it all out, and put it in the trash. We had to purchase Clorox disinfectant wipes in order to get rid of any ick and odor, and will have to restock from scratch.
We lost not only the recently purchased beef & pork, but several brand new loaves of bread, tons of frozen veggies, a leg of lamb (the worst culprit in the stinkiness), rolls, frozen soups, chicken breasts, three pounds of butter (new also) and a 18 pack of lean burritos also just purchased the week before. I estimate it was between $150-200 of food at a low ballpark number.
Dammit! I was in tears over this all Sunday night, as it is food lost that we can't afford to replace immediately, and also puts stress on the meal planning to boot.
