Saturday, I caught up on all the newspapers from the week, lounged around for a while, and assembled the park bench my Mom bought for me. Next we headed out to catch The DaVinci Code. I really liked it, and had to say that Tom Hanks' acting caught me by surprise. I knew that he could act from watching stuff like Road to Perdition but for some reason I kept thinking of things like "Bosom Buddies" and Joe Versus the Volcano.
The rest of the cast was stellar and I really enjoyed Ian McKellan's performance with all the shadings of character he was required to pull off in his role. If you liked the book, you'll probably like the movie.
Sunday, I read the paper, clipped coupons, watched the TiVo of the Trojan Cooling Tower Implosion. (There was no way I was going to get up at 6 AM to watch it live!). Next I decided to tackle the infamous garage.
I'm sure most of you wouldn't believe the sheer amount of empty boxes, packing peanuts, styrofoam wine bottle containers, and empty plastic and paper bags that were strewn all over the garage. When I pulled it all out onto the driveway, it would have filled an extra-long super truck bed. A collapsed all the boxes, and I sorted the styrofoam out. Hopefully we'll get some craigslist or freecycle takers for that stuff. The rest of the cardboard will be gone Wednesday morning.
It's amazing being able to walk around in my garage again! I got all the boxes of poltical stuff in one area, all the stuff to give away (a TV, Microwave that don't work, and a variety of other stuff that doesn't add up to enough for a garage sale). I also found some stuff I thought I had lost, found my BBQ equipment, and discovered that overall it wasn't as bad as I thought it was.
Of course I still have about 30 boxes to open, sort and toss, sell or donate... but at least I now have room to be able to sort through it all.
Then I went to TarJay, because they had a super deal on those wire racking shelves. Unfortunately they were out of them already. I was told there is a shipment today, but the cashier was unsure if more would be arriving of that particular item. I did score two white classic ceramic food bowls for the kitties, two cards for my Dad (one get well, and one F-day), and two white wire hanging shelf units that will work with my existing linen closet layout and allow me to have more than just a random tower of towels and linens in there.
Caught up on some TiVo and watched the first two hours of 10.5: Apocalypse. The TV powers that be caused a conflict for my Tuesday viewing, because part two of 10.5 will be running at the same time as House and Stephen King's Desperation Part I. Dammit! Thank goodness I have more than one TV!
