Book Challenge Update 2006

13. The House of Thunder - Dean Koontz - 504 pages. Another Koontz book dealing with brainwashing and intrigue. I liked the main character, but didn't really go for the whole strange premise that was set up. The twist at the end was totally surprising, but it kind of fizzled out after they leave the main setting. Overall, not one of his best.

I've just gotten back into fiction... which of Koontz's books would you suggest? I just read The Taking and was a little let down at the end, but overall it was worth reading. Do you read any John Saul?

I used to read a bunch of John Saul and fondly remember Creature. Haven't read anything of his in forever. I'd also recommend Clive Barker, and Peter Straub in similar veins.

Duly noted - thank you! I'll have to check those out after the Knitting Olympics :)

http://wellah.livejournal.com/tag/book+challenge That should let you know which ones I've liked from Dean Koontz, as I've really read a lot of his work lately.

Sweet!

Is this book challenge something you do on your own or is there something on the net about it? Now that I'm working in a library, I'm hoping to read a lot more :)

There is a LiveJournal community for it, and that is where I heard about it. Found out about it in October 2004 and held off starting my own challenge until January 1st. Managed to do 96 books last year, and since I started with a goal of 50, that wasn't too shabby.

People really customize their own challenge by starting when they want to, some go from May to May and some include things like comics, manga, and whatever else in their challenge count. I just count novels, and don't account for all the journals, magazines, newspapers, and online stuff I read.

Cool! Just read through the posts that you tagged and got some ideas on which books to check out. I don't think I'll be able to wait until after the Knitting Olympics to check some of those out.

You are such a good librarian! :) I can only aspire to your greatness
