Day 08 - A song that you know all the words to
“Ares”-Bloc Party
When Intimacy came out on CD in October 2008, I was slipping into the depression that would stay with me for most of the winter. I listened to this CD over and over and over and thought about dark things and wars and people dying and lust and love like death. My favorite song was “Ares” and it was on repeat for basically the entire winter. It’s very different from anything Bloc Party had done before; it is mostly a kind of rhythmic talking/almost-rap instead of singing (but there is a little singing). Those words came as fast as bullets and I chanted right along, feeling the anger and the hopelessness and the violence, and it isn’t a happy song by any definition but it kept me alive (if I may put it dramatically).
Day 09 - A song that you can dance to
“Complete Control”-The Clash
My best friend and I, dancing like crackheads and air-guitaring and air-drumming in the street in front of my house at 1 AM after the Stephen Stills concert-what more is there to say? Oh wait-YOU’RE MY GUITAR HERO!!!
Why dance to hip-hop music when you can dance to the Clash?!
