these are not the 'droids you're looking for.

I posted these in my journal a while ago and figured I would post them here too.

So, some of you may or may not know this (or may or may not care) but I used to draw. I actually seriously considered attending Kendall College of Art and Design as an art major back in high school. But during my senior year, I lost my passion for drawing and kind of glommed onto writing. I haven't really drawn anything seriously since 2001, senior year of high school. My old art teacher was very disappointed that I gave up on drawing. I think I was a little disappointed too.

Which brings me to my next point. I drew again, for like the first time in six years. Not very well, as I'm way out of practice, but not terribly either. I mean you can almost recognize what I drew - almost. I feel almost accomplished.

The first one I drew was a sketch of Justin Verlander. Or at least tried. I had to do it three times before I got the gist of his features down. He was harder than he should have been, given that his features are all pretty well defined: big bushy eyebrows, giant nose, big teeth, jug ears. But noooo, he had to be hard. (The original picture.)

The next one was Andrew Miller's arm, which I botched horribly and another Justin Verlander caricature. (And yes that's Todd Jones's scratched out face in the bottom. It also looks like Justin is wearing a kimono . . .) The caricature turned out okay. I think I was just having problems with his mouth. It's sort of slanted down, so it goes into a natural smirk, and I hadn't gotten that the first time. The first time he turned out looking more like Joey Harrington. :P (The original picture.)

Then I attempted Todd Jones as Village People cop and promptly burned it.

And finally another Verlander, which turned out surprisingly okay. The space from his hairline to his neck is fucked up, and the angle isn't quite right, but you can definitely tell it's Justin Verlander. Maybe I should've drawn these in pencil. (The original picture.)

I'm trying to get my confidence back when it comes to drawing, 'cause caricaturing the Tigers is fun. Especially caricaturing Todd Jones as a gay Village People cop.
