Momoko was due back sometime on Monday, but her lease was up today. Fortunately, Jaime had keys to her old place, and Mrs Wilson knew him at her new place, and Paco had let him borrow his pickup truck. Which, to be perfectly honest, was overkill considering how little stuff Momoko owned

Moshi's tail twitched once from where he was sitting in the middle of the now empty room. All of his hiding places had been removed and he was not best pleased.

Jaime tapped the cat carrier lightly with one hand. "Come on. It'll be nice and quick, and then you can settle into your new place."

Not gonna happen, Mister Evil-Toe-Warm-Lap.

Moshi flicked a whisker and then bent his head to give his leg one lick before looking back up with an intense glare.

CHALLENGE MADE, HUMAN. DO YOU ACCEPT?

"Oh, come on," Jaime pleaded. "This doesn't have to be a big deal, does it?"

Moshi's eyes narrowed slightly. "Mewo."

Have you ever been in the Box, Human? Have you? The Box meant things beyond your wildest imagination. You go into the Box in one place and come out at another. Sometimes it was fine and you simply had a new place to live, but sometimes it was... the Other Place!

The cat gave a flick of his tail and stood, walking to where the doors to the patio were letting in the last of the sun.

"Oh, no, no, no, no, no," Jaime muttered, walking slowly toward Moshi, not wanting to do anything aggressive enough to spook the cat. "This doesn't have to be hard, Moshi. It really doesn't!"

Moshi quickened his step just a bit. Not a run, more like a jaunt; he knew he'd reach the patch of sunshine before the human easily, but it was more fun to make the human work for it.

Jaime tried not to speed up... Too much. "Oh, come on, Moshi. We're friends! I give you scritches! I feed you when Momoko isn't in town! I thought we had a good thing going!"

And then you had to go and bring out the Box.

Moshi turned suddenly and headed for Jaime's leg.

"There we go," Jaime said, smiling in relief and crouching down to pick Moshi up when he inevitably stopped beside him.

Ahahahaha. Not gonna happen.

As the human came closer, Moshi sped up and took off running. Of course, he had to use the human as a launch pad; it was a Cat Law or something.

"Wha--?" But Jaime had thought that they were friends! Ish!

Friends don't put friends in the Box.

"Rowl!" Came a cry from the kitchen counter. WHY ARE THERE NO THINGS HERE TO DESTROY AND MAKE A POINT?

"Moshi!" He scrambled into the kitchen area. "Come on!" Jaime was glad he'd packed everything first. Momoko wouldn't think him if he let Moshi destroy her kitchen. Again.

Moshi leapt to the top of the fridge and looked across at Jaime.
