Given how on-edge Jaime was, the phone was answered before it even finished the first ring. "Hello," he said, voice sharp with worry.

"Hey. Just me. No new news here." Dinah took a breath. "How are you doing?"

Jaime didn't know whether to sigh with relief, or with frustration, that nothing was new with Dinah.

"Frustrated, to be honest," Jaime admitted, careful to keep his tone wry.

"Portalocity's not cooperating with me, either," Dinah said. "If that's what's bugging you."

"That would be bad enough," Jaime sighed, "but I'm turning up a big blank trying to figure out what might be going on."

"No information there?" Which was bad news, but not exactly a surprise. Dinah grimaced. "Barbara's not turning up anything at this end, either."

"Nothing that's helping," Jaime sighed again. "Tons of near world-ending events. A number of large-scale amnesia incidents, but nothing that matches any of this."

Which meant there was basically nothing he could do to help.

And that had to be eating at him, too. "You tried. It's enough, Jaime. I love you for that."

"It's not" Jaime snapped. Then he took a deep breath.

"Sorry," he said more calmly. "Didn't mean to snap."

"You're overdue," Dinah said, voice tight. "We all are. And it's just--" Don't say anything that makes it sound like a failure. "It's just going to take a while to figure out. That's all."

"I just..." Jaime sighed. "I get the feeling that we don't have that much time."

Dinah wiped at her eyes. "It's not your job to fix this one," she said, her voice hoarse. "I'm just glad you're okay. And if I can get a portal, something-- we may show up at your place." She sighed. "If your parents won't mind."

"You don't even have to call ahead," he promised, trying not to swallow too loudly.

"Heh." Dinah laughed a little softly. "Good." She sighed. "Things are quiet. I'm going on patrol tomorrow night, but... I hardly need to. Still. It's something to do."

"I can get that," Jaime agreed. "Just... check in when you can?" And call if she needs to talk. Any time. About anything.
