On and On and ON..........

So, the weather today in Doo-dah is absolutely beautiful:  We're charting in the mid-70's right now and there is no wind to speak of, for a change.  It's a lovely first day in November!

We just got finished taking down the Halloween decorations.  It's funny, but taking them down makes me almost as sad as taking down the Yuletide decorations.  It's like a cutting-off moment; doesn't matter how much candy is left over, your holiday is done.  Bummer.  The trick-or-treaters tally was rather light this year, which surprises me.  More and more families with small ones have been moving into the neighborhood, the weather was so delightful yesterday, and I thought for sure we'd be inundated.  Lachlan says the neighborhood is still transitioning, and that's why we didn't get many kids this year.  I think it's because we didn't have enough decorations up.  So accordingly, we're going to spend the next week making about a dozen more tombstones:  That way, we'll have them all done and ready to set up in the yard next year.  Lachlan wants to figure out some lighting effects, and a (cheap) way to make a graveyard fence.  I do so love the way he so eagerly jumps into my projects:  I'm a lucky woman, and believe me, I know it!

I think I'm going to make costumes for us next year: I see myself as a green witch (not much of a stretch there!) with Lachlan in an Edwardian suit with skeletal makeup. We'll be Dame Cackle, and her husband, Mr. Bones. Wonder where I can buy him a top hat.......?

And now, the results of our SCA Kingdom, Calontir's, Crown Tournament:  The winner is Duke Sir Martino, a sweetheart of a man.  He's been King before (that's why he holds the title of 'Duke'), and he does a very good job at it.  When he steps up as King, his lovely lady, Duchess Sir Ariel (yes, she's a fighter too.  And a damned good one!), will be our next Queen.  She's a dear, sweet, old friend, she has many friends down here in Vatavia, so I'm so very happy about the outcome!  I can't help but think that they will be good to this Barony, and aid us in our efforts to get back on our feet.  I think things will be good in Vatavia again soon.

I've still got to write my handouts for the Baronial Education day we're having on November 15.  I'm teaching a class on basic t-tunic construction, and one on how to document a Arts & Sciences project for Kingdom competition.  The first one isn't that hard to write, just a little tedious as I go over it again and again to make sure I haven't left any steps out.  The second class's handout is a little trickier:  The Internet has changed a lot of things about documenting an item.  There's so many period sources online now that just weren't available when I first started entering competitions.  I'm hoping to include the links to as many of these sources as I can.  My hope is that I'm not in over my head!  Things are very different then they were 'back in the day'........*smacking gums as I mutter to myself*

And I've got a new story that's nagging at me, wanting to be written down so it doesn't scatter away back into my brain.  Guess I'll have to make some time for that too.  Busy days go so much faster than boring ones:  Ain't that grand?
