As I Kumi Along

Still working on the Kumihimo--man, this stuff is deceptively difficult. I'm finding the hollow braid, which consists of a total of 4 movements to accomplish a set, a real challenge! Now I'm following the instructions given in "Beginner's Guide to Braiding: The Craft of Kumihimo" by Jacqui Carey. This book is no longer in print, but Amazon still carries it, you can get it pretty cheap from there.

And I'm sure you can probably find it on Buy.com or one of the others. Anyway, here's the progression:

You take the top strand on the left, and the bottom string on the right and move them both: the top string to the right side, the bottom string to the left side:

Then you take the middle strands from the two sides; move the left side strand to the top, and the right side strand to the bottom:

Step 3 is to take the top strand on the right, and the bottom strand on the left in hand; move the top strand to the left center position, and the bottom strand to the right center position.

The final step is to take the middle strands from the two sides again; move the left one to the bottom, and the right one to the top:

Simple enough, right? Yeah, except my cord is very inconsistent:

I don't know if you can tell so much by that picture, but there are places in it where I apparently lost the rhythm of it somehow. Maybe my mind was wandering or something, or maybe I'm not holding my mouth right; I don't know. I just know I'm about ready to tear it all up and start over again, pain in the ass that it might be. It's frustrating!

On the upside, though, this entry has taught me how to upload pictures on Live Journal, as well as taught me how to make links to things, so it's not all bad!
