Clothiers

Oh, I had such a great time this weekend! Clothiers' Seminar, an annual event here in Calontir, was so much fun! I saw so many people that I haven't seen in literally years--it was so amazing!  Plus I got to hang with good friends:  grnvixen , snailstichr , evil_fionn , baronnemelisend --the list goes on and on!

I saw Mistress Hertha Blair of Froggstow there; actually got to spend some time catching up with her!  She was one of the first Laurels of Calontir that would take the time to show this chubby little twinkie the very basics of.......well, any fiber craft you can think of, really.  I feel so bad for her, she just lost her husband, Master Chidiock, last month.  What she was doing out and about, I'll never know but oh, it was so wonderful to see her!  I hope I get the chance to do more so in the future.  Memo me:  Take pictures of Gryff and Coelred to SCA events in the future.

So, I went to the event with proteges Alyx and Asa, household member Margaret, and a sweet treasure of a woman, Sung.  We all crammed our chubby butts into Alyx's Ford Explorer and took off way too early Saturday morning.  And even though it seemed at times like Mister Toad's Wild Ride (ask Alyx about almost hitting a boat), we got there safe and sound.  Mostly.  Okay, I was scared silly sometimes on the ride up, but the point is, we got there.  I took Thora's class on Hiberno-Norse clothing, and both of evil_fionn 's classes because she was just so darn interesting!  Plus, I bought my first inkle loom and got a short lesson on it, watched Ylva knit a stitch pattern I'd never seen before but could probably replicate fairly well now, AND caught up on the gossip.  So, all is well.

We stayed for court--I am so proud of how our Queen, Maerwynn, handles herself--she's another in a long line of strong Calontir Queens, a legacy I'm proud to say I had a small part in!  Then we crammed ourselves into Alyx's suv again and made the journey home (this is where the boat comes in).  I think I collapsed into Lachlan's arms in exhaustion when we reached my house, but I didn't care. My mind was awhirl with new ideas and things I want to do to make our SCA participation more period!  Now all I have to do is find the energy.

I'll probably be in pretty bad shape for awhile, but I wanted to get this post done, mostly so I could say thanks again to everyone who made my trip so enjoyable.  And thanks again for driving, Alyx, I know you didn't really want to.  I appreciate you more than I can ever express.
