This is sort of a picture/video post but also, anybody feel like speaking of some of the lesser known/talked about programs? :)

I don't think a lot of people realize what an up and down season he had prior to the 2006 Olys. He was such a headcase during that period. To be fair, he was starting to feel pretty unhappy with the new judging system and the direction it took his skating.
He did pull himself together nicely for Nationals, and this program was kind of a mess everywhere but there. (There was also a memorable meltdown at Skate Canada, so you might wanna avoid that, unless of course you're the type who wants to watch all that there's out there, and that was a pretty significant point in his season.)
I know a lot of people had issues with this music and didn't really get behind it. I really enjoy the Nationals performance of it, though. Mind you, my favourite way to watch it is without the commentary. :'D

From his journal...

The free program has changed completely, down to the music. I started the summer skating to 'Liebestraum' by Franz Liszt, but I couldn't quite get the music into my heart. I didn't feel the music, and in my head I never saw it as my music, I pictured other people skating to it... I came up with a solution, I'd change it. I chose music by Maksim Mrvica; 'Amazonic', 'Hana's Eyes,' and 'Wonderland.' The new music takes me out of my generic, elegant look and adds an edge. I am playing a much stronger character.

Before leaving Simsbury I felt like my new programs couldn't be any more difficult, or interesting. I thought wrong. I sent out a few videos of my programs to some judges and callers, and a judge came to check the progress of my training for the federation. I was told that my step sequences and spins weren't up to code and that they all needed to be changed. In Priscilla's and my quest for upgraded steps and spins, my jumps sat on the back burner and lost momentum, and so did the choreography of both programs. I suffered a lot to make my programs difficult, and it was very hard in my mind to change what Tatiana Anatolievna and I had worked so hard to achieve. The choreography of the program suffered; it became very bland because there was no time for anything with the elongated step sequences and spins.
As you know, in the end he wasn't happy with it and went back to Otonal for the Olympics.
