My Computer Adventure by weird_one age 25

So I've pretty much got my new computer all set up the way I want it. AND I'M COMPLETELY IN LOVE WITH IT. It's got almost twice as much hard drive space, something like four times as much RAM, a burner - though I haven't figured out yet if it's a just a cd burner or if it's a dvd burner, a faster video card, AND I've got a new monitor as well. The monitor's going to take some getting used to. It's a flat screen, which is AWESOME, but I haven't quite found the settings that work for me. Also, I swear to dog, the right side of the frippin' monitor is DARKER than the left! It's driving me a little nutty.

Setting up the new computer and transferring stuff didn't take nearly as long as I was afraid it would. What did take a long time was getting our collective shit together to actually do things. saline_joy and packmentality, thanks for the flash drive suggestions. We found a program that let you transfer your files and settings from your old computer to your new one and since we somehow had enough parts lying around to make another working computer that's what we did.

The break down of the whole process looked something like this:

Monday: Got computer, started moving things to zip folders and deleting things I had previously saved.

Tuesday: Spent the whole day trying to upload things to the internet.

Wednesday: Ran around trying to find all the parts to hook up the hard drive and installed XP but couldn't connect
to the internet, figured out we were missing an ethernet driver.

Thursday: Found and installed the ethernet driver, figured out the transfer wizard thingie and ftp'ed the things the wizard missed.

Friday: Moved my old computer and monitor off my desk, moved the new one on to my desk and hooked everything up. Installed some programs and ripped a bunch of cds all around going to dinner with Mom and going out with Tiffany.

Saturday: Continued installing and ripping things in between volunteering at a school event (which I'll likely post about later this week.) and dinner and egg-dyeing with my family.

Sunday: Thought I finished with everything, went to the family dinner at Mom's. Came home 'round 9pm and actually finished with the damn thing.

So basically if I hadn't had a life the whole shebang would've only taken two days once Dad and I figured out what we were doing.

ETA: edited to correct the names of who suggested the flash drives. Sorry, guys! I have no idea how I got that mixed-up.

friends, computer stupid, internet stupid, fam-damnily, holidays, dinner
