Chapter one here.
~~~
She was outside her place now, but she still didn’t feel like she had enough air. There was something still pushing down on her and even away from her partner’s prying eyes she couldn’t escape it. She needed to be alone right now, so she wasn’t going to go over to Tidwell’s. He would pester her to open up; either her emotions or her legs, and she really didn’t feel like doing either of those things tonight, not with him. She decided she’d try the old ritual of ice-cream and a chick flick. Sure, it was meant for those that had just broken up, but wasn’t the point to try and cheer oneself up? And Dani definitely needed cheering up, she felt like crap. She hauled herself up off her step and went in to raid the refrigerator and freezer. She was going to go all out, if she was even considering using this crap “antidote”.
Sitting there on her couch Dani sighed, after two Hugh Grant, two Julia Roberts, three Tom Hanks movies (yes, she had a slight thing for the bumbling American didn’t most women?) and a whole new tub of Boysenberry Swirl, she was exhausted. Exhausted but better, for she had used up all her emotions and was staring out her window. He had hardly invaded her mind in the past 13 and a half hours but she knew he would when she finally succumbed to sleep. But for those precious hours she had been relatively Charlie Crews free. She had chosen to marathon a whole set since she wasn’t required at work tomorrow, after such a debacle that she had endured. She was thankful that she didn’t need to face Crews again so early after that rescue, that mind numbing stupid, idiotic- wait she was doing it again. He was back. She groaned and stood swaying a little as she regained her sense of motion. She decided that she might as well collapse on her bed and see if she could sleep since he was already in her thoughts, she’d rather have a senseless dream than a headache over her bullet speed thoughts.
