Last night when I got to driver's ed for my next driving lesson, it was break- er, excuse me- "self study time"- for the class that was going on. Sitting out in the lobby was a group nearly identical to four of the kids from the class I was in, except that the probably-gay-boy from that group had been replaced by an androgynous girl. They had nearly the same speech patterns and social interactions as the kids I had known. It was a bit freaky.
Driving went well- unlike last time I didn't end up spending 20 minutes in a church parking lot just working on turning. I did parallel parking (the only parts that are hard are pulling up close alongside the car in front, and judging a 45 degree angle), backing around a corner (stop twice, for both crosswalks), parking on a hill (not actually on a hill, though, just theory), and some general driving, including driving up Lakeridge Drive, aka THANK GOD I WASN'T GOING DOWNHILL, because it's way twisty and I don't want to end up in Percival Cove. I drove all the way out to Mud Bay, and then the other learner drove back, with stops in downtown Olympia for him to practice parallel parking and backing around a corner, and a detour out around the lake because we needed to kill time. He didn't signal at a place that I had been told to when I went around the lake, but he didn't get told off for it. It was his last drive, though, so I guess the teacher figured that he was doing well enough.
Then I did karaoke out at Jake's with many a person. Definitely have decided that "One Way or Another" is my favorite karaoke song. It's actually in my range and I've known the words forever and ever and ever, again, except for the bit at the end that rarely makes it into cover versions so I don't know it as well. Luckily everybody screws up that bit. Although the bar was really busy, the karaoke wasn't, and we managed to do all of our songs well before 1 am. We went on a walk down to the boardwalk, where I learned that I am the only person in the karaoke-ing group who likes
The Kiss- one of my favorite statues ever.
One of the people I was hanging out with has a really strong laser pointer. We were at the playground on the boardwalk, and he pointed it at the Capitol Dome- the green dot was highly visible, about three-quarters of a mile away. I feel like this must be illegal somehow. On the other hand, it was cold enough that you could breathe out and then wave the laser through your breath to see a velvety slice of air. Now I want a laser pointer!
Bailey got me a very pretty metal bracelet while he was away in San Francisco. The Thai lady who sold it too him says it helps with stiff joints, so I'm wearing it on my right wrist. It was disgustingly cold out last night and wrist didn't ache, so perhaps the bracelet does work! (Or maybe I was drunk and the alcohol had acted as a blood thinner, which helps with reducing wrist pain.)
(For those just joining us, I broke my right wrist in 5th grade, and now it hurts in cold weather.)
