Ok so I am home from Africa and it was a mixed bag of a vacation. It was a lot more money than I would have paid out but Arasin is right we will not be going to Africa again so why not take advantage if the opportunity.
The Ethiopian Airlines can bite my left nut after it has rotted off. They suck in so many ways, if you can imagine the seats are tight on me both sideways and leg room. The food was very little offered and no alternatives. On the way down when the plane landed at Mozambique, either we were on the wrong runway or something was way off in communications. There was a work crew replacing part of the runway and yes we ended up in the dirt of the stripped away section. The pilot managed to break enough that when we hit it we stopped and not on our noses. Very scary!
On the way home I got to pay for my room in Addis Ababa Ethiopia as they claimed that there was 1 seat left on the next flight from Zanzibar so I would have landed at 7pm not 7am so they would not give me a voucher for the room or meals. Thank gods it was only $70 but to scam like this to the 4 (yeap 3 others and me) of us was just suck. breakfast was a small muffin and no I didn't eat it I couldn't and yes I did try to get my food needs listed before flying but they do not seem to read or understand emails.
The Spa was very good and the food was great so much so I let myself be tempted by the braised beef in gravy and risotto so now I am paying for the little cheats I did. Uggs nuff said.....
I swam in the ocean (ok I walked in water up to my chin) and tried to float and went under and said suck it. Water was warm and nice but ugg. I prefer tanks.
Loved watching Arasin swim with the dolphins, and we had fun walking in the park and seeing the monkeys up close and personal. The Mangrove Swamp was neat and the raised walkway was nice, the guide was great with info without being boring. The spice and exotic fruit tour was informative and fun and so good. Yea fresh fruit off the vine is great, green coconut was yummy as well as the star fruit. We bought some flavored teas and coffees as well as vanilla extract.
Seeing the Stone town (named because of the stones used to build the homes) was interesting, it was not as dirty as Mexico or even Egypt. Fairly clean and not smelly in general for an obviously poorer county. The people seemed fairly happy and money orientated. ie everything cost and cost and unnnmmmmm cost.
The Zanzibar county charges $50 to Europeans and $100 to USA citizens (but we get to come back as many times as we want in a year). Oh did I mention the $50 exit charge?
It was fun and interesting and again makes me very glad to be American or White/Anglo, from the European stock that pushes all boundaries good and bad. We build and grow. YEA us.
