The sword and what else would be near him now?

Son? Of course not, Arthur must bide while his father crumbles under the burden of his own sins come back to haunt him. Arthur with his dark skinned maid, (oh does he think Uther does not see or worst, know the burden and pain of secret and stolen love…) and his bumbling servant, with their motley collection of Knights that can be barely called so stumble and grope through the concerns of a Kingdom while Uther can only see the lost.

And does Uther marvel that his son can shoulder the burden so well, or because he has forgotten how?

And who else would share his nightmares?

Does his daughter? Beautiful Morgana, his mad daughter, who brought so much ruin to the Kingdom and even if she stood here with him- what comfort could she offer?

They have made their Kingdom burn, haven’t they? He’d marvel at it if it did not burn through his soul and chest whole. She is so much like him and neither had seen it until it was too late.

Until Camelot paid for their folly. They wanted so much. Everything.

Perhaps that is why Morgana did not kill him. Although he had wished it, and although she had claimed to hate him. She wanted the final victory, the love of a man who would never feel it returned- the rage of a beast chained until the castle and world she’d built.

They had taken Camelot and dipped it’s white towers in blood. What else could they have done?

All they know is the sword- kept nearer to them then a lover’s caress.
