One True Pairing Ship: I don't really have one.
Balthier/Fran comes closest, since they are utterly, canonly perfect for each other. But I'm willing to read/write basically anything once, and there are a lot of pairings I like when they're written well, so I guess I don't really have an OTP. The fics I enjoy most tend to be the ones where someone has taken a pairing I wouldn't have immediately thought of and made it work.

Frankly, this is the only ship I consider canon. It's not explicitly said, but there's plenty of hinting between these two, wheras any other pairing involves considerably more speculation. They're also just wonderful because of the way they can read
"If This Happens I'll Stab My Eyes Out With a Spork" Ship: Vayne/just about anyone
I just really don't like Vayne. Beyond that, this never works well, except for the sake of utterly humiliating whatever other character. Which occasionally has its place, but still. I've read really good fics that involved Vayne (often with Balthier) that I still wasn't terribly fond of.
"You Are One Sick Bastard" Ship: Is this supposed to be things that make people say that about me or things that I say that about? Hmm. Well, Balthier/Basch almost fits in both , so I'll go with that. Hooray for a pairing that I never see working out and basically exists to be dysfunctional, but I can't resist reading anyway. Which is mostly because Logistika writes them.
"I Dabble a Little" Ship: Basch/Ashe
I don't know, it's cute. I am over time less attracted to this pairing, since it really isn't especially plausible, but it's fun to play with sometimes.
"It's Like a Car Crash" Ship: Balthier/Ashe
And it's so popular, too! I mean, I guess I understand why, what with the pirate/princess forbidden love sort of aspect to it, but seriously, this would never work. You know why? Because Balthier isn't going to give up pirating and Ashe isn't going to give up princessing. Maybe maybe I could see this if the ending were different such that Ashe's dreams are just completely crushed and she has to find a different path to walk, but even then I don't see it working out that well.
I don't even tend to read these, except for the occasional funny one.
"Tickles My Fancy But Not Sold Just Yet" Ship: Basch/Penelo
On some level, this pairing still sort of creeps me out because of the age difference. But it just works. This is your fault, Sarasa_cat. Completely your fault. XD
"Makes No Canon Sense But Why the Hell Not" Ship: I have a tough time coming up with these without drawing names out of a hat or something. I tend to notice potential pairings because they make some level of sense to me, even if it's not especially plausible in canon. On second thought, I think I have to say Ashe/Penelo here. Because WTF but it's oddly cute and it satisfies my occasional need to just write a really odd pairing. (...does anybody know of any fics for that aside from the one I wrote a while back? I'm pretty sure I've never seen it anywhere) Fran/Penelo has potential too, but actually makes a little more sense. I don't really see Fran/Ashe working. I think they would just end up snapping at each other or something.
"Everyone Else Loves It But I Just Don't Feel It" Ship: Vaan/Penelo
It would be a stretch to say everyone else loves it, but it's a common one. And while it can work and be cute, it just doesn't strike me as interesting in general. Besides, they have much more of a brother/sister kind of relationship than a romantic one.
"When All is Said and Done" Ship: Balthier/Fran
Really, they are the ones I go back to over and over because their relationship is just so great, and there's so much of it to be explored. And it's closer to canon than anything else, which gives it more plausible material to work with.
...I now have the urge to write something really off the wall. Except I really should be trying to write Balthier/Fran for threewalls. Gah, why does my brain not want to cooperate?
