Oscars Shmorshcars. Whatever.

Since last night I was at Ciciboy's place to do what normal adolescents do. Get high. Kidding. I was actually there to check out his new iPod, and to basically hang out. Also, I wanted to watch the Academy Awards LIVE! because my cable subscriber sucks and doesn't have the cool channels.

Well, basically there weren't any upsets on this year's Oscars. Everyone deserved their trophies, and frankly I'm really happy about all the winners. Francis and I clapped during what? Three or four times, maybe because the winners deserved their respective award.

There's Diabo Cody accepting the award for Best Original Screenplay, "Falling Slowly" winning Best Original Song, DD-L winning for Best Actor, and NCFOM winning Best Picture.

Awesome.

So, the show was littered with bad performances though. Amy Adams just stood there and flicked her fingers as she sang "Happy Working Song." Kristin Chenoweth destroyed "That's How You Know." I know she won a Tony Award, but come on, I didn't like her performance one bit (especially since the nigra dude practically ruined his opening). Jon McLaughlin was okay, I did like that song. Let's forget about the nigras in August Rush. Francis kept singing "I Wanna Sex You Up" as the performance was happening, and I really couldn't listen to the choir that's singing.

However, Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova totally nailed their performance. Abso-fucking-lutely awesome.

Well, they fucking won. First time Ciciboy and I clapped during the entire show. Glen and Marketa really deserved it, and much as I like the songs from Enchanted, it's too overrated. Let's skip those three songs nominated from Disney, and let the underdogs win.

Of course, during the speech the fucking conductor cut Marketa off. Which was pretty fucking stupid of him. Thank god John Stewart brought Marketa back onstage (proving that he's an excellent host). Marketa gave the most awesome speech of the night (well, according to me at least).

Marketa Irglova: “Hi everyone. I just want to thank you so much. This is such a big deal, not only for us, but for all other independent musicians and artists that spend most of their time struggling, and this, the fact that we’re standing here tonight, the fact that we’re able to hold this, it’s just to prove no matter how far out your dreams are, it’s possible. And, you know, fair play to those who dare to dream and don’t give up. And this song was written from a perspective of hope, and hope at the end of the day connects us all, no matter how different we are. And so thank you so much, who helped us along way. Thank you.”

Long live, indie!

Teh second time we clapped was when Diablo Cody won for Juno. If Once was the little movie that could, Juno would have to be the little movie that did. So even though it only won ONE out of FOUR categories that it was nominated, I still felt that winning the Best Original Screenplay was well-deserved. There's nothing like an underage pregnant girl who's witty and ultra-hip.

So yeah, basically I'm happy that two of my most beloved films of 2007 wasn't snubbed at all. Like I said, there weren't any upsets this year (Well, maybe in the Documentary category. I still felt that Michael Moore should've won for Sicko because it's his best documentary evar.)

Hooooray!

Oh yeah, Diablo Cody was hot as fuck, but what she was wearing has to go back to Africa or somewhere.
