twitter vs yahoo! messenger

i find it sad/amusing/annoying how twitter has become the new YM. i mean, how someone would reply to someone else's tweet, or even just message someone via twitter (without using the direct message feature) and then that person would reply a few seconds later, and then the other person would reply, until you have a chain of replies filling your timeline.

i admit, i'm guilty of this (and for that, i'm sorry). i visit twitter more often than any other website, so it's most effective to contact me via twitter. heck, i barely even sign in yahoo! messenger anymore because of this.

but i miss YM's heyday. i miss having quick private conversations online. i miss having ym conferences for the heck of it. sure, i'd sign in YM every now and then, but usually just to chat with my dad or to leave him messages. when i want to talk to someone, i'd tag them in twitter, leave a message on their wall or send them a message in facebook... mainly because a lot of people rarely sign in YM anymore. like me, they'd visit their facebook or twitter accounts more often than YM.

but tonight, i decided to use YM to ask someone a question regarding enrollment. that move led to the longest YM conversation (with a wide range of topics, at that!) i've ever had for quite some time now. i missed it.

i might just randomly chat with people on YM, looking for random conversations with random topics. so don't be surprised if i just randomly chat with you on YM. :))

twitter, yahoo! messenger, random rambling
