MTV Employee Database Hacked; 5,000 Records Stolen
Records from 5,000 MTV Networks employees have now been stolen, according to a company memo issued Friday. The outside hack was allegedly perpetrated through a single employee internet connection, and authorities have been notified.
The compromise included data nuggets like names, birth dates, Social Security numbers and compensation data, according to information shared by the human resources department. "We are taking every appropriate action to investigate this incident and to protect you and the company in future," MTV Networks told its employees. The Viacom-owned MTV is also offering credit protection services to affected employees.
