FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Popular Local Band debuts on MTV2 & CTN.
Hattiesburg, MS - "The Friday Night Gigolos", Pascagoula's rock and roll favorites, have just been chosen among the top 10 entries in Viacom Entertainment's "Best Music on Campus" contest. The competition, held through MTV's sister station CTN, called for bands or artists currently enrolled in College to submit a music video, with the top voted video to appear on MTV, MTV2, and CTN. The winning band will also get a laundry list of prizes equaling major publicity and a real shot at the big time.
What makes FNG's placement among the top ten entries out of hundreds of submissions truly impressive is the fact that, until just 13 days before the contest's submission deadline, the band did not have a music video to submit. "We had a large, loyal following and several popular songs to our credit, but we had never produced a real music video." Said band front man David Lynn with a sly grin, "But, we aren't the types to let something so trivial keep us from entering a video competition." By pooling the support of their fans (one of which works for a production company out of Jackson), their friends (who served as extras in the video) and a popular venue in Hattiesburg (which allowed them to film key scenes on location) the band was able to produce a very impressive, high quality video in less than two weeks and on a budget of . . . well, nothing. "We bought lunch for the film crew and then repaid everyone involved by putting on a wild show for them after the first day of filming." Says sax player Damon Garcia. "But that second day of shooting was a daze. We had to show up on set in Jackson at 9am after putting on a show five hours away the night before. Most of us took turns sleeping in the greenroom while the others shot their scenes."
The effects heavy video, which features the five members of the band trekking across the individual days of a calendar to join one another on stage in the final "Friday" box, was edited, composited, and finalized in a whirlwind seven days. Opie Cooper, long time FNG fan and producer at Jackson based EYEVOX Film and Television, contentedly points out: This isn't a simple performance piece shot on home video. They've created something to really be proud of and that people will enjoy, despite the outcome of the competition. Does it look like a million dollar video? No. Does it look like a video shot with no budget in two days? Heck no."
The video premiers on MTV2 and CTN on October 20th and plays through the 23rd. Viewers are encouraged to log onto
