Rural Ruckus * SCIENCE! * Shriner Clowns * Kill The Runt Gets Killed

Aug 15, 2008 02:15

TL's B-day was a total success. Though I guess I could have drank more beer; ate more not-dogs; and set more things on fire (and taken more pictures for that matter). There were ATV rides, s'mores, funny banter, good company, cemetery wandering, and all the other makings for a great-summer-night-rural-ruckus. Beforehand, I went over to Lucy's (probably for the last time in her old place) and ate French toast, drank white wine with orange juice, and munched on some nasturtiums growing in her garden. Then stopped by the Pizza Luce Block Party ever so briefly-- just long enough to get sassed by one of the RollerGirls for jokingly saying we should put children in the dunk-tank.

The next day I went to the Science Museum-- no no, not for the Star Wars exhibit (fuck a bunch of Star Wars exhibit!), but just because.

Things (re)learned-- for your amusement:
- Sneeze into your sleeve...it's the cool thing to do.
- Your circulatory system is made up of little tiny strong men with handlebar mustaches wearing leotards (obviously).
- Wash you spinach; cook your meat; and try not to get AIDS/the Plague/TB/Smallpox/Cholera (dressing as a cool bird person helps [see Fig. 1]).
- I have low blood pressure, and not much of a pulse (go figure).
- If my Harmonograph (which is a cooler invention than the light-bulb by the way) tells me anything about my personality, it's that: I'm a square (like, totally L7).

When I got into work on Sunday, the back room was littered with balloon animals (and some other weird kids toys); turns out, one the people that is staying here is a Shriner Clown (we get lots of Shriner people here, but rarely are they clowns). So he made/gave the 2nd shift people some stuff. Strange.

The rest of the time at work was spent being very very tired; as I've been sleeping very very little for the last week or so. I'll go to bed anywhere between 3 to 5 in the morning, and be up and restless around 9 or 10. Fortunately, I just put about 6 GBs worth or dub music on my computer (essentially, the entire catalog of On-U-Sound Records)...so at least I'm entertained.

In local (music) news: Kill the Runt broke up. Which is unfortunate. It's even more unfortunate that it seemed so very inevitable. And we were just starting to flirt heavily with other genres...getting more dancey/"fun"...ripping off Roy Orbison...I was on the verge/in the process of bringing some fully formed songs to the table...and all sorts of other cool things were in the works. But alas, that's just the way it goes. I think Mason put it best:

"ANOTHER ONE BITES THE DUST: After a brave and prolonged battle, Kill the Runt finally succumbed to ego cancer at approximately 10:37pm Wednesday night. The band had been sustained by life support for some time and, though it showed faint signs of recovery, the plug was officially pulled in favor of pursuing other outlets. We are glad to see it put out of the misery it had espoused for the duration of its life. The band is survived by Mason Butler (Tiger Gash), Matt Kyle (the Knotwells), Cory Kalinoski (ex-Ass), Lindsay Baukert (Joel), Matt Hawbaker (Three's Company, Too) and Don Dickey (TBA). Memorial services are in the works, possibly at the Squid House. A final live recording is also being discussed so as to not let the band's material pass away as ingloriously as the band itself."

Further Information [VOID]: The Wake (or Penultimate Show if you prefer) will be held at the Squid House on AUGUST 30, probably with a bunch of the groups Mason is in (Tiger Gash, Little Queen, Power Stallions, et al); maybe a Squid House Band reunion/revival; possibly Cities of the Plain; and perhaps Titty King (aka Jewish Beast, aka Ralph Taeger).

The band will finally be laid to rest at the Nomad (with Sharp Teeth and TBA), on SEPTEMBER 4.

FUNERAL SHOW TO BE ANNOUNCED (sometime in Sept. no doubt).
