My 5th graders were working on a math/language project involving writing out a series of directions so that someone else could copy their original design. Once they worked with a partner or two, they brought the directions to me to see if I would make the right design.

CS was reading his directions to me but they weren't clear so I paused. He puts his head down and starts erasing, "I know I got it wrong 'cause you're making that face." he says.

I need to know so I ask, "What face?"

Then he makes the face I make when the answer is wrong and I'm waiting for the student to figure it out. It was so hilarious. I laughed and laughed. Then he explained, "I know I have it right if you smile."

I guess I wouldn't make much of a poker player.

Side note - Team Winchester kicked butt in the Battleship tournament this afternoon. I think TC may have won the prize - no math homework for the weekend!
