Confession of a Non-Shopaholic

I don't like shopping for clothes. Although I'm much better about understanding how to dress my body, I find myself often disappointed at my selection and walk away sad. Part of my issue is that I've been shopping in Lane Bryant for ages - this is a good thing because their pants/jeans fit me very well. This is a bad thing because their tops are too big and going to a department store to shop is aggrivating. Can't I get all my clothes in one place?

I got over myself yesterday and went to Macy's. I tried to set myself up for success by wearing appropriate foundational garments (my newest bra that I actually was measured for) and a cute pair of jeans that would be a good neutral for any top I tried on. (Stacy and Clinton would be so proud!). I wandered through the Ladies' Department for a while picking up this and that.

I was very surprised at the selection of colors - to me browns and orange are "fall" colors, not spring or summer. But those colors look good on me so I went ahead and picked some up. I also had Ryn's voice in my head telling me to choose saturated colors, so even though I tried on a very cute peach top I put it back because my skin just blended in to it.

One of my other concerns when shopping for spring/summer tops is the sleeves. I have large upper arms. Sadly, a vast majority of tops have sleeves that cut me, tightly, in exactly the wrong spot on my arm. And it's not even like the sleeves fall gently there, it's a tight seam. No good. So I try to look for three-quarter sleeves because I'm more comfortable in them.

I wandered around one department gathering items. Tried them on. Kept two, put the others back and kept looking. Another circut in a different section, found a few more things. I have to say, my initial success helped my confidence and I had loads of time so I just wandered around. In the end, I ended up with six tops I like and can wear to school. Three of them were on sale, and then because I have a Macy's card, I got an additional 15% off of 4 of the tops! \0/

I'm going to do an Easter fashion show when we have dinner at Dad's and let the clan weigh in. Two of the tops do have that snug cuff on the arm that I worry about (just the left arm...wtf?), but even if I return those I'll still have 4 new tops and that makes me happy.

family, me
