The campaign to save Wincon only has 10 days left and I hope there's a surge in donations because otherwise it will be the end of a beautiful thing. :(
My first Wincon was in Baltimore because I could drive there (and escape from crazy internet people in my own car if necessary!) I really didn't know what to expect, and then I connect with people I fangirled from afar on LJ, spent an afternoon crafting an elaborate tin hat, laughed my ass off at Bad Fic Idol and talked and talked and talked fandom for a whole weekend.
Wincon is like a three-day pajama party where EVERYONE is on your fandom page and you don't have to struggle to explain what you mean when you reference fandom or fic. You don't have to edit what you say (at least in the conference rooms - you still need to be aware of public spaces :). You don't have to worry about what you're wearing. It's come as you are, or as you're sometimes afraid to be.
