Mamma mia, here we go again

This weekend has been strange and unexpected. Our original plan was to go camping with another couple at Rehoboth Beach. Since the first campground they booked us at was not available for 2 nights, they had to make a reservation at a different campground the next day. So we left work early on Friday and began our drive, not hitting much traffic at all to our delight. But then our friends called us and said their dog was terribly sick and they had to medicate him and couldn't leave him with their friends, so they had to bail. We were sad, but still happy to be heading to the beach.

We made it to the campground around dinner time and pitched the tent. Unfortunately, we had other campers on both sides, very close to us. Usually we're used to having more room or an end site. On the one side was a couple and a friend of theirs, and on the other side was a group of more than 10 people! Anyway, so we left after setting up and went right to the boardwalk. We grabbed a quick dinner and sat on the beach watching the sunset and moonrise, both of which were beautiful.

The full moon could have made the tides especially rough, and the water came up on the beach very high sometimes:

Not the best picture, but...

The moon rose very red

After sitting on the sand for a while, I got an ice cream cone and we walked along the boardwalk.

Another moon pic from the boardwalk

We got back to the campground at 10pm, which is the start of quiet hours. Apparently, they don't enforce that rule. Our adjacent campers on either side were all being noisy even though it was pitch black out. S is a heavy sleeper, but I'm not and got maybe 3 hours of sleep that night. But at least the temperature was comfortable.

We woke up around sunrise the next morning and S prepared a breakfast of pancakes, eggs and coffee. Here you can see our site, and then the group of 10's site behind S:

Then we packed up the tent and our stuff and headed to the beach. First we bought lunch from Lori's Oy Vey Cafe, a favorite of ours, and put it in the cooler for later. Then we drove to North Shores beach, set up our umbrella, blanket, and beach chairs and spent the next 3.5 hours relaxing. The weather was perfect.

After getting covered in sunblock, sweat, sea water, and whatever else, we were ready to leave and take a shower. It was time to check in to the next campground so we drove over there. On the way, S points out the window to a small section of tents near the highway and says "There it is." I say "Are you kidding me? Please tell me you're kidding." She wasn't.

This "campground" was a trailer park with a few tents in the middle of a parking lot type area next to the highway. No campfires were allowed. There was one spigot for all the tents and they were all butted right up next to each other.

Basically we were all "WTF?"

And "There's a freaking HIGHWAY right there."

So after laughing hysterically, we decided to just go home. And you know, we weren't even that disappointed.

That evening, we invited our friends who had cancelled to have s'mores in our yard on the fire pit. We had a lovely time. The next day, S & I saw Mamma Mia and had some good laughs, then went over to the same friends' house for a yummy grilled dinner. All in all, a very nice weekend :)
