Let your rainbow flag fly!

This weekend was gay pride weekend in DC. A singer/guitarist friend of ours (K) came over from Memphis to perform and attend Pride. She stayed over with us on Thursday evening, and we brought her to a gig in Baltimore on Friday evening. She met up with two other performers that she would be playing with (E and M). It was a while until the show started though, so we walked around the Camden Yards area looking for a bite to eat. Unfortunately, there was a game so it was packed and we felt like we were stuck in a frat house, but we eventually got a semi-edible pizza after a half hour wait :-P All 3 women did an absolutely fantastic job during their performances and I was happy to have met such wonderfully talented people (who I would continue to see on and off all weekend).

On Saturday, we went into DC just in time to join the Dyke March. We enjoyed the snowcone we grabbed just before joining the march while walking with the rebellious, chanting, and sometimes topless women. Good times. The march ended at Dupont Circle where everyone relaxed and listened to K and E play their guitars and sing. And then we all melted in the 90-something degree heat. S & I went to Cosi to grab food and drink, and luckily we had brought books with us which we read for an hour while waiting for a thunderstorm to pass. We spent more time walking around and shopping before heading back to the evening's festivities. We got a spot on the front lines to watch the parade, and after being there for a half hour, some friends from our local GLBT group joined us. It began raining again, so we left after about an hour and went to Merkado for dinner. We had a great time eating, chatting, and drinking mojitos and left for home around 10pm.

On Sunday, S & I stopped by our farmer's market in the morning, buying more stuff than we did last time (totally excited about the cherries!) and bumping into at least 5 people we knew. In the afternoon, we went back to DC to attend the street festival. The weather was perfect and we were able to do a lot of walking and people watching. We caught some shows on the stage as well- M was performing, but we also bumped into K and E. For lunch, we walked over to the Museum of the Native American. I highly recommend the Rosemary Pinenut tart (which should be called the Lemon Pinenut tart). We went home shortly thereafter so we could split up and spend Father's Day with our respective fathers. I met my parents at Nichi Bei Kai, a Japanese steakhouse, in Columbia. We had an excellent meal- more food than we could eat and great service. Then I went home to watch the Tony awards and CRASH.

Me and K, who, as far as hair is concerned, could be related. And Hazel matches, too.

Baltimore has some colorful characters, straight out of a John Waters film. Take this girl for example, who is quite punk (and I would normally not bat an eyelash at that), but the doll....THE DOOOOLLLL!!! She carried it everywhere with her and pet it during the performance. And then at one point she must've gone to the bathroom because when I glanced over, just the doll was sitting there listening to the music.
