I love time off....

....however, sometimes time off needs to be used not for fun things, but for necessary things. Take two days ago for example. On our way back from the Poconos, I noticed that something was off with my car and figured it was the alignment or a tire problem. On Friday, S played hooky again and we decided to take our cars in for rotations and all that good stuff. I didn't get more than 10 feet from the house when I had to pull over because my car was undriveable. Turns out I was riding on the rim of one of my tires which was flat as a pancake. Not only that, but it had blown out so badly there were tiny metal wires sticking out from a section of the tire.

I was extremely impressed when S changed the tire, offered my assistance to her, and paid close attention should I ever need to do it myself again. I got to a car repair place on the spare and $120 later, I have 2 brand new tires, fixed alignment, and a free oil change. Not bad.

S and I had a nice lunch at College Perk while the work was being done, and then waited for them to rotate her tires when my car was finished. When they finished her car, they had a laundry list of other stuff that needed to be done, and she decided to go to two other places that were cheaper.

Thankfully we did have something fun planned, and that evening we met up with another couple for a Chinese food dinner and to see the movie Atonement. What a depressing, slow-moving movie. lol. Generally good, but not something I want to see again. I had such high expectations, too, because the general public seemed to love it.

Unfortunately, while changing the tire earlier that day, S was poked by one of the metal pieces sticking out and it had been 12 years since her last tetanus shot so off we went to the doctor yesterday. After 2 hours of waiting and playing travel Scrabble, S was successfully stabbed and we got italian ices to make her feel better. Last night we went to a martini party at ptpgrad's house and talked sex, drugs, and politics (we ARE mostly DC locals after all) while sipping tasty concoctions.

And today, the sound of meringue mushrooms fills my ears....

parties, car, health, get togethers
