Empire carpeting/flooring came over last night. Our first quote from them? $7800. Let me repeat that. $7800. For two rooms of laminate flooring. When we looked at the guy incredulously and said we were expecting to pay something like $2000, he said "let me see what I can do" and brought the price down to $5500 then $4700. And when we still looked at him incredulously, he said "let me call my manager and see if I can use overstock flooring" and then brought the quote down to $3600, or $2800 if we want to use a lesser quality flooring.
This car-salesman-ness makes me not like and resent Empire and I will not call them nor recommend them to anyone in the future. In short, I think they suck. Did I mention that if we buy the flooring ourselves from Home Depot or IKEA, we're only going to be paying about $500?
Next course of action: call our technical services co-op guy to talk about removing the old floor and ask if he has recommendations for installing the pergo that we buy ourselves.
