Carpet woes

So a few months back, we rented a Rug Doctor and immediately after, the carpet was sparkling. Then a few days passed, and apparently the amount of water left in certain areas stained parts of the carpet and mildew began to appear, along with a mildewy smell. It's been driving me crazy.

Now, with the "prospect" of putting the house on the market, the impetus for getting the carpet professionally cleaned materialized. I found a coupon for $14.99 per room in a Val-Pack and made an appt. I figured it would be 14.99 x 2 since our room is large, plus fees and stuff, putting the total cost at around $50 or $60.

Last night the cleaners arrived, right in the middle of the 6-9pm window. They were seriously on speed or crack or mountain dew. Like, the most hyper I have ever seen people. Jumping around and going in and out of the house with their tubes and hoses and brushes. We got a demonstration of the "deep scrubbing" method and thought, hey that looks great, fine we'll do that. Then other stuff was added to the cost, stuff I didn't care about but seemed standard. The final cost? $174.99. JESUS!

But you'd think it would work, right? For that amount of money? Anyway, I paid and I've been freaking out ever since giving the guy my credit card number over and over, with him telling it to people on the phone, who really could've been anyone. So I keep checking my account to make sure there are no weird charges on it. And this morning, one of the stains is back and there are light spots coming back on another area.

So basically I paid $175 to find out that we will probably have to replace the carpet at some point anyway. Next time? Pergo.
