Wandering Son@Wikipedia Personality:
To most Shuichi would not appear quite like other boys his age, in fact they wouldn’t be wrong in thinking so as“Shu” -as he tends to be called- never really has been like the other boys, generally making friends with girls instead. Firstly one would notice that he is very quiet, generally only speaking when he is spoken. Secondly -and even though he has on a few rare occasions acted rebellious as any teen would- he tends to be very obedient and well behaved, always doing what he is told. Thirdly he is notably, very sensitive for a boy. He can be reduced to tears very easily making him something of a cry-baby.
However because of this others tend to take advantage of him and makes him a prime target for bullying and abuse, particularly from his sister and -at least when he was younger- boys in his class. However this has generally not been much of an issue for Shu and it can take a while before he actually grows fed up off it, and longer still before he will manage to stand up for himself, often to the surprise of those on the receiving end. This is notably apparent with his treatment of Doi, a boy who’s confusing and often cruel treatment of Shuichi (such as encouraging him to come to school dressed as a girl, only to later laugh at him with his peers and act like he hadno hand in the incident) eventually led Shu to straight out exclaim hishatred for him and proceed to completely wash his hands of the boy.
In fact when I say Shu isn’t like other boys, I mean he really isn’t like other boys. In fact you would easily mistake him for a sweet young girl,
as would often happen when he was a bit younger. To be a girl... Even his sister comments that Shu “Should have been born a girl.”, something Shuichi deeply desires and often finds himself wishing for; yet is growing ever distant as he continues through puberty. He often finds himself pining over women’s clothing and dresses, which generally leads him to be labeled a pervert by those less understanding. It is not uncommon for Shuichi to put on a wig and dress and go somewhere where nobody knows him and even now he is able to do so without a second glance, often using the name of his sister -Maho- in place of his own. But how much longer he can keep that up is another story and aspects such as his voice (which is beginning to break) and his height are fast becoming insecurities.
But this has not yet managed to stop hisdetermination, and while Shu is really no different at heart dressed as a girl than he is normally, at the same time he seems almost a completelydifferent person as many traits such as his courage (he himself has grown used to being told what a brave thing he is doing) and more feminine mannerisms are brought forward and are able to shine. Yes Shu is much more comfortable presenting as a girl.
However he still struggles to make his true feelings heard, largely because he can’t even spit it out. He often stutters a lot and seems
very nervous when talking face to face except those he has gotten to know, and even then he still struggles at times. However occasionally hemanages to force things out and suddenly exclaim his feelings, usually catching others -and even Shu himself- off guard simply because of how out of character it is for him.
Shuichi better expresses himself through the written word, often writing stories and play scripts for thedrama club he was a member of and is often praised for his writing. Onesuch play was the tale of a world where all the men had become women, and vice versa. While another was an adaption of Romeo and Juliet where Romeo desired to be a girl, and Juliet desired to be a boy. It is evident that Shuichi means to express his feelings over his gender through his writing.
Generally avoiding outdoor activities in favor of indoor activities -such as his writing- Shuichi is also quite capable in the kitchen and enjoys baking sweet foods for himself, something he can become completely engrossed in. He sometimes spends time helping and teaching his sister and sometimes bakes for his friends.
Lastly Shu is also fairly difficult to predict at times. On the cusp of puberty he is prone to emotional outburst that can contradict his usual behavior, such as raising his voice, getting frustrated and angry; a shocking difference from his normally meek personality. In many ways then he is much like a typical teenager, struggling to figure out who he is as well as trying to deal with all the feelings and emotions puberty brings, made all the harder by the fact that his body is slowly, but surely, dragging him away from his desires.
Strengths:
Shuichi is not particularly outstanding when it comes to physical ability, having chosen indoor activities over outdoor activities his whole life. However he is a fairly capable baker and he tends to enjoy making sweets and cookies forhimself and friends.
Though one would not expect it of him, Shu has often proved that he is an incredibly brave person. Although he is faced with a society that would not look kindly on him, he still seeks to be able to express and be himself. This is clearly evident when he attempts to attend school dressed as a girl in Chapter 65 despite Chizuru’s warning. Although the idea was suggested by Doi -who would later laugh at him for it- it was clearly what Shuichi himself desired to do.
Similarly Shuichi has started to become quite capable of speaking his mind when it really counts, it can take him some time before he does so, but when he does those around him are often surprised by how honest and frank he can be. This tends to earn him respect from
his friends, but he personally does not remain very sure of himself as is evident from the same incident in Chapter 65 and the aftermath following; Yoshino is impressed by Shuichi’s ability to be so honest about his feelings and later tells him as such, however Shu does not feel that is the case.
Weaknesses
Shuich is very emotionally sensitive; if something upsets him he is very liable to cry which can be rather confusing for those around him,
particularly due to just how suddenly this can occur. For example in Chapter 28 when Anna pulls the exchange diary from his hands and reads its contents; Shu immediately breaks into tears much to Anna’s surprise.Although early in the manga he promises that he won’t let himself cry anymore, and as he has grown older it has become less frequent it is still not out of the ordinary for Shu to suddenly shed a few tears.
Due to his obedient nature, Shu tends to be easily pushed around; he’s usually willing to take a lot of punishment before he will actually try
and stand up for himself. This is particularly noticeable with his relationship with his sister Maho; being similar in age and yet the younger of the two, Shu often finds himself taking abuse from her. While this is fairly normal with siblings Shu is rarely one to fight back even in fairly serious cases.

First Person:
1. What's the clearest memory that you have? It can be good or bad.
Ah... [He smiles a little bit.] It was back in fifth grade, before things began to change.
I'd just bought a wig and Chiba-san wanted to take a photo, so me and Takatsuki-san got changed and we all took photo's together.
We don't do that sort of thing very often anymore...
2. If there is one thing about yourself that you could change, what would it be?
[He fidgets and looks to the side. He's not terribly comfortable with these sorts of questions.] I-I... [He immediately pauses, he's having trouble spitting it out. But after a moment he nonchalantly looks forward.] I want to be a girl. That's... [He looks to the side again.] what I want.
3. Do you value yourself? Do you think others around you value you? What would you say is your personal worth?
I've felt a little like Cinderella before... My sisters picks on me a lot and that can make me feel a little worthless.
Yuki-san says kids like me are a rarity and my friends say a lot of nice things about me. They even argue over me and defend me.
But I don't really see it. I'm not really anything special at all.
4. Name the most important emotion, in your opinion, and explain why you made your choice.
It's not really something I've ever thought about.
I don't really know. It's a difficult question to answer. I'm sorry...
Maybe being happy is what's most important? But I'm only saying that because it's an emotion I like to feel. [He tilts his head and smiles.]
5. What makes you happy?
Wearing girl's clothes... [He blushes.]
Not just that.
I think I'm happiest when me and Takatsuki-san do that together... The male Takatsuki-san and the female me.
And with Mako-chan to! That's what... That's what makes me happy.
Third Person:
Shuichi carefully poked his head around the corner of the building. The path lead to what seemed to be the plaza and -as was to be expected- a good number of residents were there, minding their own business. They all had wings too, he noticed, but that certainly didn’t make him feel any less out of place.
He quietly ducked back behind the corner before anyone noticed him, slightly scraping his new found wings along the bricks in the process. Though he winced from the pain, gripping tightly on the folded clothes and journal he held to his chest, they were only a part of his worries. Though he couldn’t deny that the fact he awoke dressed as he was didn’t please him at all, he wasn’t exactly mentally prepared for this.
A white sundress... While he surely would have loved to have worn a dress such as this, the last thing he wanted was to be labeled as a freak before even meeting anyone in this strange place. Even if he were able to find a place to change, the only outfit that had been left for him was the girl’s sailor uniform that Takatsuki had given him all those years ago.
Takatsuki-san, Shuichi wondered for a moment if she might be here too. She would probably handle things a lot better than he was. And that’s all before even touching on the matter of what this place he found himself even was to begin with. He had dreams similar to this before, but never quite so vivid. It couldn’t be real could it? Surely not?
He took a deep breath. He couldn’t avoid people forever; he just needed to find some more suitable clothes first... In honesty while he could probably get away with appearing as a girl as he was, in the current situation his nerves were plainly getting the better of him.
But maybe he didn’t have to tell anyone the truth here? If nobody here knew who he was did they ever need to?
He paused for a moment to think, looking down at the dress and then to the wings. A slight smile slowly appears on his mouth but soon turns to a somewhat somber expression as he looks back to the hem of the dress. “I wouldn’t be able to keep that up...”
A moment passes, the silence suddenly broken by the sound of voices coming from the lane beside him. He almost screamed in surprise, he wasn’t ready yet! He wanted to turn and run, but instead found himself completely frozen to the spot and the voices would be here any second.
Two boys? They walked past him. He suddenly blurted it out, stuttering just a little: “H-Hi!”
They wouldn’t even have noticed him if he hadn’t opened his mouth.
