i thought i was going to try to post in this daily....

last wednesday, there was some champion's league football on in the local pub. i decided to take abreak from studying and go. i was the only american there. i was dressed in a t-shirt and jeans, while everyone else had their work clothes on. i sat at the beer with a beer, and people were reaching over me to order drinks. i just sat there awkwardly, trying not to say anything and give away my accent (although i think my appearance was a dead giveaway anyway). this one guy who's ordering a beer starts chatting football with me. apparently (i was watching chelsea play valencia), i know my football really well for an american. he bought me another pint of fosters (i now have 2 pints in front of me...keep in mind that the beers are about 9% alcohol here. also, keep in mind that i'm a guy and i just got bought a drink!). i down those two in the first half. i buy myself another pint for the second half, and seconds later, i meet this 24 year old chap who is a big manchester united fan. he couldn't believe i was a fulham fan (he told his co-workers about me, and they were "shocked" that an american would support fulham LOLOL). he liked me a lot and bought both of us a round. after the game, i talked to him for about another hour, with 4 pints in my body. basically, i was gone for the night. thank god i didn't have class until 2pm the next day. rachel had to watch me in the study room because i was going zonkers. it was one of those times when i wish someone had a video camera on them so they could've recorded what i was doing.

this marked the first time i got drunk off beers alone while i was here. it made me very happy.

speaking of that class on thursday (which is writing), everyone turned in 2 essays last week. the professor, instead of making them 2 separate grades, turned them into one. she hasn't handed them back, but she was "disappointed" with our work, apparently. i'm not looking forward to next thursday, but i'll tell you how it goes.

friday, on the other hand, was a golden day. i met this amazing girl over here, and we decided to go up the dome of st. paul's while we still had nice weather. it was a great day, and i could see for miles. i've also never seen as many construction cranes in my life!! london is such a weird city in that way, because not much survived from WWII. because of that, there's a ton of construction everywhere, and it clashes miserably with all the old stuff that DID survive the intense bombings of WWII. ....anyway, that was a lot of fun, and we're both photographer's so we had a blast with the views. we had a lunch date, which went well, and then we went to class (each class has one make-up class on fridays, and we both had this class - psych - together). i didn't really take much in during that class, but i don't really care.

saturday was a pretty lazy day for me because i had too much to drink the night before. in the afternoon, i was sick of it and impulsively decided to go on a walking tour of parliament, buckingham palace, and that area. i got a lot of good pics cuz the weather produced some dramatic light. i'll post those (and the st. paul's pics) sometime in the future, so look out for those on facebook. i saw big ben, westminster abbey, the houses of parliament, trafalgar square, st. james park, and buckingham palace. i went alone, which was fine. i enjoy being alone quite a bit. i like being alone, but i hate being lonely...it's a phrase that i live by a lot. i like doing things independently....like going abroad as an 18 year old.

that night, i was not in my flat after 8pm, but all my other flatmates were, smoking pot. an RA came round, and someone refused her entry. i didn't get back until about 3:30am, after everyone had left and was asleep. the next morning, i got an email (as did my 3 roommates) that we had been cited and needed to talk to the director face-to-face. all my roommates stood up for me (and also fessed up themselves), and i told my story. i got off scotch-free, but they all got academic probation. now, 2 of them are currently drinking in the flat, playing loud music (we bought some filthy speakers) and being incredibly loud in general. i'm not sure about their judgment....especially for a monday night.

this week is the first week where i actually have a lot of work. i have 3 papers and a presentation to give this week. not a big deal, normally, but i'm so out of the "school mentality" since i've been here. it'll be a struggle to get it all done.

i WILL try to update this more frequently so i won't have to write incredibly long posts each time i come here
