Although I'm not a firm believer, if I ask God for something, and occasionally I do, without really thinking about it, I also tend to say 'thank you'. It's only for silly things like if I'm late for work and can't find my keys and say 'Please let me find them' and then I do, then I cast my eyes upward and say 'thank you!'
The thing about human beings is that we watch the violence and we simply accept it. We put it down to 'well, it's not in my neighbourhood people died, I guess that's just the way things go' - then when something happens, like that little boy Rory being kidnapped and killed, everyone is in an uproar because 'oh my goodness, how could that happen right on our doorstep?'
We are lulled into this false sense of security, with movies and television, that they are simply either for entertainment or for information.
I don't remember where I was going with that last bit, but my point of it still stands so I'll leave it in.
