Yeah, Kris's point about soya and rainforest misses the fact that most soya is grown for animal feed. Which is a point which could have been raised if she'd been capable of rational discussion.

Another point which could have been raised is: how much? I enjoy eating meat, and currently believe that a truly healthy diet contains a reasonable amount of meat. But intensive farming is truly horrendous. Pastured 'free range' humane meat is the only justifiable kind, I feel. But feeding a world of 9 billion (where population is projected to level out) on that is probably impossible. So, unless I advocate for a meat-eating elite - of which I am a part - and a vegetarian underclass, I'll probably have to cut my own consumption down considerably.

I like the thing PETA does with all the attractive naked women. Other than that they pretty much suck.

Why can't you be vegetarian? If it's what you want, go for it. It's really not that difficult. Hardcore vegan is a little harder, as most companies don't reveal whether their products are vegan or not, but vegetarianism's ridiculously easy.
