I finally got my internship placement!

Check this out:

Dear Sofia,

Congratulations on your decision to study abroad this Summer. I am writing to let you know of the internship we have found for you. Please review the following information and let me know how this looks!

COMPANY NAME: Black Spring Press Ltd

COMPANY OVERVIEW: Black Spring Press publishes contemporary fiction as well as reprints old classics that are relevant today. We often publish books with an offbeat quality, including famous authors such as Nick Cave and Lenoard Cohen.

Dexter Haven Associates provides publishing services, project management of book production for publishers, clients range in speciality, from academic, to pamphlets to the contemporary.

Our office environment is serious, but informal and very creative.

COMPANY WEBSITE: http://www.blackspringpress.co.uk

HOURS AND DRESS: To be confirmed, but will likely be 9:30 am to 5:30pm, and dress is neat but casual, including jeans and sandals.

JOB DESCRIPTION: We are a small publishing company, and the kind of books we do can be seen at on our website. Interns do a wide range of research, editorial and general office tasks. Because we are small, we offer a bit of everything, but interns don't get a taste of corporate life here, so if that's their interest this would be less suitable.

STUDENT EVALUATIONS:

Black Spring Press is a small publishing company with two full-time employees and several interns. The company's main work is in providing publishing services for outside academic publishers as well as in publishing its own books. Black Spring specializes in off-beat literature and in reprinting out-of-print fiction.

I don't have a daily routine in the strict sense, apart from coming to the office each morning and doing whatever Robert needs me to do. Since I started working I have read submitted mauscripts, conducted marketing research, input editing corrections and formatted bookpages. The responsibilities I have been given have increased greatly throughout the placement period, and I have spent several weeks working on my own project with one particular book.

I know that I am the first student to be placed at this particular company, and I just wanted to say that I would definitely recommend it for future students. It's definitely not a place for someone who's looking for glamor or big names, but it's a lot of hands on work, and it's in a great area of town.

On a more personal note, the book I've been working on will be released this summer, but it should be back from the printer before I leave, so I am very excited to actually hold and flip through a book I helped create.

This is a fantastic placement which had great reviews from the intern we sent there this past Spring. The small office environment should prove advantageous since you will have a wide variety of options for the type of work you want to do, and will have the opportunity to try your hand at various tasks in publishing. I know you were especially interested in editorial work and an overall exposure to publishing, which you will get at Black Spring Press.

Please consider this offer seriously and let me know what you think. If you are interested I would be happy to arrange an interview for you.

I look forward to hearing from you.
Best wishes,

Tanya
