Tattoo Night

Last night was wonderful.

I got a call from Omar telling me that Hatter had come down from Heights and was about to get a tattoo, and did I want to come watch? So Marlene and I decided that we really wanted to see this. Really. Got dressed, left popcorn in the room to get stale, and headed out to the tattoo parlor just past Dobie.

I felt hyper the minute I walked in and saw all the wall flashes, heard the music and saw my friends. It was great to see Hatter again, even though it's only been a week since I've seen him.

He had designed himself a sort of tribal version of the trans symbol, with the male part emphasized. It was relatively large and went right below the belly button, dangerously close to the crotch. Very cool design, wild and demanding.

The tattoo artist let us watch, and we ended up with the artist who had traveled all over the world in a non-luxury-touristy fashion. He was really good about getting Hatter talking. He asked all about Hatter and also ended up having a lot in common with Omar. It was just nice to have the four of us gathered there, talking to someone new and interesting and watching Hatter get a tattoo. We were there for hours and didn't leave until around three (I think). It was a great night.

I've also decided that I'm getting one for sure. Two symmetrical ones on the back of each shoulder, and hopefully Hatter keeps his promise of designing them for me. And I'll get it in that same place, because seeing how clean it was, the artist working with gloves and being gentle and giving Hatter tips on how to care for it, smelling the disinfectant, that all reassured me. I hope I get that same artist.

And when I get it, my friends will have to be there.
