Amsterdam

As the saying goes, when in Amsterdam, do as the Damned do.

Went to Amsterdam this weekend, and while I didn't do anything that was illegal (to US standards, even) I did have a great time. It was ridiculously cold there, so cold I didnt want to take my hands out of my jacket to take pictures, but for the sake of posterity, I did. Most of these are pictures that I knew my mom would love, so they're a bit G rated. I also didn't want to take pictures in the Red Light District, well cause it was gross and I was afraid any inch of exposed skin would devlope diseases. Hehe.

Amsterdam is beautiful with its classic european city looks. It has all the required great architecture of old buildings, that romantic canal thing, and the kamikazee, suicidal pigeons.

This is the Canal that my hostel was on. It was really beautiful, but one more street over to the left was the Red Light District which got dodgy fast.

An arbitrary canal, but one that we were on while it wasnt raining, so I snapped a picture. Its a little unknown fact that there are actually more canals in Amsterdam than in Venice, its more famous canal cousin.

I love these houses, the entire city is filled with them! Each building is about four floors high, and real narrow. The stairs are DANGEROUSLY small and narrow, and a few times I forgot to duck :( I would love to live in one tho! A fun fact is that if you look closely near the roofs of these places, you see a plank of wood that projects from the front and a hook from it. Those are called "furniture hooks" because since the houses are so narrow and so are the stairwells, all furniture is moved in and out through the windows by use of the pulley.

Apparently the only thing illegal in Amsterdam.
